Women’s impact in the tech industry

Kathrin

"We also have to actively create a culture where inclusivity isn’t just a buzzword, but a reality."

What advice would you give to young women aiming for a leadership position in the IT sector?

Believe in yourself and don’t hesitate to speak up – confidence is key. I’ve found that creating your own opportunities by clearly expressing your ambitions can set you apart. Seek out mentors who can guide you; having strong women and allies to support you is invaluable. Leadership isn’t just about technical skills; work on your communication, negotiation, and emotional intelligence. These have been crucial for me in managing teams effectively.

Don’t shy away from challenges – taking them on has helped me growing and demonstrating my abilities. Support other women in the industry; lifting each other up creates a stronger, more inclusive environment.

Why do you think diversity is essential in the IT industry, and how do you promote them in your role?

My conviction is that diverse teams bring a variety of perspectives, experiences, and ideas, which can lead to more innovative solutions and creative problem-solving. Different viewpoints can challenge the status quo and inspire new approaches. When team members come from different backgrounds, they can analyze problems from multiple angles, leading to more thorough and effective outcomes.

To create an inclusive culture I am aiming for a culture where all employees feel valued and heard. This involves encouraging open dialogues, celebrating diverse backgrounds, and creating safe spaces for discussions.

How do you see the role of women evolving in the tech industry/world in the coming years?

I think we need more diversity in tech, and it’s encouraging to see companies stepping up. It’s also awesome to see more programs inspiring young girls and women to jump into STEM fields. Flexible work options are making a real difference too, especially for women juggling family responsibilities. And honestly, it’s so exciting to see more women launching their own tech ventures and leading startups.

In what ways do you believe the tech industry can further support and empower women to pursue and thrive in leadership roles?

To truly support women in leadership, I believe we need to start connecting them with mentors who’ve walked the path before them – it’s about guidance, support, and opening doors. Offering flexible work options is also key because it helps women balance their careers and personal lives more effectively.

We also must actively create a culture where inclusivity isn’t just a buzzword, but reality. And let’s not forget the power of showcasing the incredible women already leading the way – it shows others that they can do it too.
