STORM powered by OTRS scores with numerous new features

In its product, OTRS Group combines two of its core competencies: the technology for efficient incident management, which has proven itself globally for many years in its help desk system OTRS, and great expertise in security processes.

Now, the SOAR solution scores with numerous new features, which the OTRS Group security team will present for the first time at the virtual FIRST Conference that takes place from June 6-9.

STORM‘s new features eliminate security risks and simplify the daily routine of security analysts who can now focus on their core tasks.

“The development of the new features is based on detailed feedback from STORM users, allowing us to closely align with the needs of security teams,” says Jens Bothe, Director Global Consulting and Security Specialist at OTRS Group. “We are sure that our updated STORM will make the daily work of IT security specialists easier, and we are looking forward to introducing the new features to all interested parties at FIRST.”

Below is a sampling of the new features:

  •  Optimized analysis of potentially malicious files: These functions enable faster analysis of file attachments. For example, a PDF is automatically converted into a preview image. In this way, the analyst can check whether a file is potentially malicious before it is downloaded and can decide how further analysis will take place. In addition, these features enable the generation and comparison of hash values with the help of external tools.

  •  Integration of hardware security modules: This can ensure a high level of cryptographic key protection. Storing private keys in an HSM increases the security of the key as opposed to using the file system.

  •  Labeling attachments and/or tickets: Often, lacking an overview of already recorded analysis results in additional work. If security analysts tag attachments with self-defined labels – individually or across teams – a better structure is created in their daily work. Likewise, tickets can be marked with labels to get a better overview of already analyzed incidents, events or requests.
