I joined in February 2022. I chose OTRS Group mainly because a good friend of mine who also works here recommended me knowing my situation that I recently finished studies in IT and that OTRS Group would be a good starting point.
Although I am aspiring for a developer’s position one day, I chose a tester’s role for a start until I get familiar enough with OTRS considering the size of the application and the workflow. This role enables me to have a bit different perspective on the application which certainly helps when I get into more complicated tasks.
Remote job has their cons just as pros, and one of them certainly is the lack of direct human-to-human interaction. That of course results in a lack of socialization between colleagues. I think that OTRS Group solves and manages that issue by organizing off-sites every 6 months. That way we keep real human contact and feel that we are part of the team not just ‘some person on the screen’.
With a coffee of course :). Besides that, with a regular 30-minute daily call at 9:15 am with two of my colleagues about the tasks that each of us have and if there is anything that needs clarification and assistance. After that, at 11:00 am there is a team daily call where we discuss all tickets that my team has for the current sprint.
I can for sure recommend applying without hesitation and guarantee they will have a positive, tolerant, and supportive atmosphere if they start here. Also, a very important thing to mention is a very patient and knowledgeable senior colleague who will gladly share expertise and skills.
