I joined OTRS Group in the Autumn of 2018. Previously, I had been a technology catalyst on the consumer side, introducing new solutions to my previous companies. I decided to change sides to be a “supplier,” to share the good news that comes from adopting technology in life at scale. It lead me to become part of a global tech company with an APAC subsidiary in Singapore.
Growing within the company is a good factor. The role comes with more responsibility and broader business management than an isolated functional role. It gave me the opportunity to gain in-depth industry knowledge and valuable business exchange with my peers and colleagues. The APAC team is lean; hence, it allows me (and the team) to multitask toward the collective mission.
We use internal chat extensively and do voice or video calls as well. Active communication, the art of listening, being objective (and rational), and genuine trust would be the key components. Indeed, it cannot be an overnight team feeling, but understanding each member’s working style over time keeps the team cohesive.
Typically, I start with a hearty breakfast to fuel my tank. Most mornings are in-person meetings, while screen-bound tasks, including overseas calls with our customers, happen in the afternoons with multi-time zones overlapping. Thanks to the system, I can plan my day accordingly using automated reminders, dashboard updates and calendars – it has transformed my work life.
Hard to keep to three – let’s start with having a growth mindset, being agile and flexible, and practising respect and integrity. Those are essential qualities that would contribute to a person moving from where they started to the next steps. Light-hearted note, when the OTRS family meet – often, it is a fun gathering!
