IT security is becoming increasingly important in shipping and logistics
Oberursel, September 3, 2018 – OTRS AG, the world’s leading provider of process and communication management solutions, will be exhibiting for the first time at SMM, the world’s leading trade fair for the maritime industry, which takes place in Hamburg from September 4 to 7.
In hall B, booth 164, OTRS will demonstrate STORM, an IT security solution that can be tailored to the needs of shipping companies. STORM stands for Security Threat Operational Response Management and acts as the technical backbone for IT security processes. It defines the specific processes for specific threat scenarios and enables role-based approvals for different user groups. It also allows completely encrypted communication between clearly authenticated users on security-relevant events and documents them in a legally compliant manner.
“Fleets have become digital and are therefore exposed to a higher risk of cyber attacks,” says Jens Bothe, Director Global Consulting at OTRS AG. “A current example is a blackmailing Trojan that attacked a shipping company last year forcing container shipping to be interrupted for weeks and causing damage of up to 300 million dollars. We are sure that with STORM we are presenting a solution that can cover the increased IT security requirements of shipping companies.”

In addition to STORM, OTRS will show another security solution at SMM that helps companies to structure the security-relevant processes required for ISO 27001 certification internally.
